Solarstone opens 60-MW BIPV solar factory in Estonia

Estonia-based building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) maker Solarstone has opened a 60-MW factory in its home country that it says is the largest BIPV manufacturing facility in Europe.

The new production plant in Viljandi will assemble 13,000 integrated solar panels per month, enabling 6,000 homes to be equipped with 10-kW rooftop solar systems each year, the Estonian company said recently. It added that the new factory is equipped with advanced precision machining and has a customised A+ rated PV-testing station onsite. Half Cell Panels

"This isn't just the opening of a factory; it's a huge leap towards making energy-producing homes and the prosumer era a reality," said Silver Aednik, CEO of Solarstone.

Solarstone financed the project with the backing provided previously by Tallinn-based renewable energy company Sunly and a contribution from Estonian investor Biofuel OU.

Set up in 2015, Solarstone offers a universal aluminum framing kit that allows the direct integration of PV tiles and of systems. The company says it has installed 1,000 solar roofs across 10 markets.
